Troubleshooting

Assistant or MCP connection fails

Check assistant provider errors, pending approvals, and external MCP connections with missing or rejected tools.

Use the checks for the connection that fails: the assistant inside Udon, or an external AI client connected to Udon's MCP server. The assistant guide shows both settings screens.

In the setup wizard, a failed connection test shows its error on the Choose a provider step. Click Skip for now to turn the assistant off and move on, and set it up later with these steps.

  1. Open Settings → Assistant as an admin. Turn on Enable assistant to reveal the connection settings, check the Provider, and click Save. Save tests the connection before switching the assistant on.
  2. Match the reported error to the provider. For a rejected API key, replace it with a valid key for the provider. Read the provider message: the account may lack credit or access to the selected model. If the model is unavailable, pick one from the returned list. For a rate-limit error, wait before retrying.
  3. For a custom provider, check its base URL and that the Mac running Udon can reach it. A localhost URL refers to that Mac. For a CLI provider, check whether the settings show Not installed, Signed out, or Signed in. Install or sign in to the CLI on the Udon Mac, using the macOS account that runs Udon, then retry Save.
  4. If a chat has stopped progressing, look for a question or approval card. Answer it, approve the requested action, or reject it. A local CLI's unanswered approval expires after five minutes. Built-in provider approvals can remain pending until answered. Check completed tool results before asking the assistant to retry a change.

Confirm recovery by asking the assistant to list containers in a new chat. Its tools follow your Udon role; admin-only actions need an admin account.

If it still fails, email [email protected] with the Udon version, provider or MCP client, exact error, and whether it happens during setup, a reply, or a tool call. Remove API keys, tokens, authorization headers, and private chat content from anything you send.
