I can't access files or share a folder
Check disk access, account permissions, uploads, SMB shares, and container data folders.
Use these checks when Storage cannot open a folder, an upload fails, or another device cannot use a shared folder. Keep the exact error to distinguish permissions, read-only disks, and full disks.
Check your Udon account and disk access
Browsing and downloading files require an operator or admin account. Uploading, changing files, mounting shares, and sharing folders require an admin. Ask an existing admin to check your role in Settings → Users; see Users and roles.
For Full Disk Access errors, follow Verify Full Disk Access: turn on Udon in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access, then confirm Settings → Health reports Allowed. Full Disk Access does not change a folder's filesystem permissions.
Check the destination folder
In Storage → Volumes, confirm that the drive is mounted and has free space. A read-only volume cannot accept uploads or file changes. For “permission to write” errors, check the folder's permissions for the macOS account running Udon. That account can differ from your Udon username.
If the volume stopped responding, check the drive connection or remote file server before retrying. For an upload failure, try one small file in the same folder. If Udon reports the 5 GB upload limit, transfer the file through a mounted SMB share or on the Mac. If a file already exists, choose another name or replace it only when intended.
Check the share's direction and credentials
To mount another server's share, use Storage → Volumes → +. Check its server address, share name, and that server's username and password. For guest access, leave the username and password blank and confirm the server allows guests. Udon mounts SMB shares, not NFS. See Mount a network share.
To share this Mac's folder, enable Settings → Sharing → Services → File Sharing (SMB) and grant Admin Privileges. Use Storage → Shares → +. The folder must be within the macOS account's home folder or on a non-startup volume. Guest access requires a specific subfolder rather than a whole home folder or volume.
Connect using credentials accepted by the Mac's SMB service. Check the share's Read only setting if clients can read but cannot write. See Share a folder over SMB.
Check container mounts separately
If Storage works but a container reports “permission denied,” check its host folder, container mount path, read-only flag, and configured User or UID/GID against the image's requirements. The container's process needs permission to write its data folder. See container storage fields.
Retry from the device that failed. Test writing with a small file, then remove it.
If it still fails, email [email protected] with the error, Udon and macOS versions, account role, affected folder or share, available disk space, and whether the failure occurs in Storage, an SMB client, or a container. Omit passwords and private file contents.
